1. Overview

MedGuide Japan ("the App", "we", "us") is a health information app developed for foreigners living in Japan. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App on iOS.

By downloading or using MedGuide Japan, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.

2. Information We Collect

MedGuide Japan collects minimal, non-personal information to function correctly:

• App preferences: Topics you selected during onboarding (stored only on your device via AsyncStorage).
• Bookmarks: Articles you bookmarked (stored only on your device).
• Checklist progress: Checklist items you checked in articles (stored only on your device).
• Pregnancy appointment data: If you use the Pregnancy Timeline feature, appointment dates, types, and your chosen notification reminder time are stored only on your device.
• Purchase status: Whether you have purchased MedGuide Pro (stored on your device and verified through Apple's App Store systems).

None of this data is transmitted to our servers. It lives entirely on your device and is never shared externally.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit:

• Your name, email address, or any contact information
• Your precise or approximate location
• Your health information, symptoms, or medical history
• Device identifiers (IDFA, IDFV) for advertising purposes
• Browsing history or behavior analytics
• Crash logs or analytics data sent to our servers
• Any data for advertising or marketing profiling

4. Local Storage & Device Data

MedGuide Japan stores the following data locally on your device only using React Native AsyncStorage:

• medguide_interests — the health topics you selected during onboarding
• medguide_bookmarks — slugs of articles you have bookmarked
• checks_[slug] — your checklist item completion states per article
• medguide_checkup_appointments — pregnancy appointment dates, types, notes, and notification times you added in the Pregnancy Timeline
• medguide_pregnancy_lmp — your Last Menstrual Period date, if entered, used to calculate your current pregnancy week
• medguide_pro_purchased — whether your Pro purchase has been validated

You can clear all locally stored data at any time by deleting and reinstalling the App. This data does not leave your device and is not backed up to any external server.

5. Push Notifications

MedGuide Japan may request permission to send you push notifications. This permission is used exclusively for pregnancy appointment reminders within the Pregnancy Timeline feature.

Specifically, if you add a prenatal appointment in the Pregnancy Timeline and enable the day-before reminder, the App will schedule a local notification on your device at the time you choose. These notifications:

• Are scheduled and delivered entirely on your device — no data is sent to our servers
• Contain only the appointment type and preparation reminders you set yourself
• Are not used for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than reminding you of your upcoming appointment
• Are cancelled automatically when you delete an appointment

We do not use push notification tokens to identify you, track you, or send remote messages of any kind.

6. In-App Purchases

MedGuide Japan offers a one-time in-app purchase called MedGuide Pro

All payment processing is handled entirely by Apple's App Store. We do not receive, store, or process your payment card details, billing address, or any financial information.

Apple's privacy policy governs all payment-related data: apple.com/legal/privacy

To restore a previous purchase on a new device, use the "Restore Previous Purchase" option within the app. This contacts Apple's servers directly.

7. Third-Party Services

MedGuide Japan uses the following third-party services:

• Apple App Store / StoreKit — for in-app purchase processing and validation. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
• Expo (expo.dev) — the development framework used to build the app. Expo may collect limited, anonymized diagnostics during development builds. Production builds do not include Expo's analytics.

We do not integrate advertising networks, social media trackers, third-party analytics platforms, or data brokers of any kind.

8. Children's Privacy

MedGuide Japan is rated 13+ on the App Store. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

The App is intended for adult foreigners and expats living in Japan.

9. Your Rights

Since MedGuide Japan does not collect or store personal data on external servers, there is no personal data profile held by us to access, correct, or delete.

All data stored on your device can be cleared by:

• Deleting and reinstalling the App
• Clearing the App's storage through your iOS device settings

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

Continued use of the App after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If the changes are significant, we will notify users through the App or App Store release notes.
